Microporosity in carbon blacks

چکیده

Microporous carbon blacks can be characterized by the same techniques as activated carbons, using the classical DR equation and comparison plots based on non-porous materials. The CO adsorption isotherm at 273 K, combined with 2 computer modelling, also leads to an assessment of microporosity. The results agree with independent techniques such as immersion calorimetry into liquids of variable molecular dimensions and a modified Dubinin equation. The study also confirms that the comparison plots based on N (77 K), CO (273 K) and C H (293 K) do not necessarily lead to 2 2 6 6 overlapping results for the total micropore volume and the external surface area of the carbons.

Evidence of micropore filling for sorption of nonpolar organic contaminants by condensed organic matter.

Although microporosity and surface area of natural organic matter (NOM) are crucial for mechanistic evaluation of the sorption process for nonpolar organic contaminants (NOCs), they have been underestimated by the N adsorption technique. We investigated the CO-derived internal hydrophobic microporosity () and specific surface area (SSA) obtained on dry samples and related them to sorption behav...

Noninvasive functionalization of polymers of intrinsic microporosity for enhanced CO2 capture.

Modifying sorbents for the purpose of improving carbon dioxide capture often results in the loss of surface area or accessible pores, or both. We report the first noninvasive functionalization of the polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) where inclusion of the amidoxime functionality in PIM-1 increases carbon dioxide capacity up to 17% and micropore surface area by 20% without losing its f...

Surface area and microporosity of carbon aerogels from gas adsorption and small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering measurements.

A carbon aerogel was obtained by carbonization of an organic aerogel prepared by sol-gel polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde in water. The carbon aerogel was then CO(2) activated at 800 degrees C to increase its surface area and widen its microporosity. Evolution of these parameters was followed by gas adsorption and small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS, respectively)...

Microporosity Development in Coal-Based Carbon Foams

This paper presents a novel method of manufacturing carbon foams from coals with a bimodal porosity structure (macroand microporosity), by means of a carbonisation process at 450 or 475 °C that produces the carbon foam, followed by chemical activation with zinc chloride at 500 °C. The activation agent influences the development of macroporosity during the foaming step and gives rise to micropor...

Dual Tuning of Biomass-Derived Hierarchical Carbon Nanostructures for Supercapacitors: the Role of Balanced Meso/Microporosity and Graphene

Rational design of advanced carbon nanomaterials with a balanced mesoporosity to microporosity is highly desirable for achieving high energy/power density for supercapacitors because the mesopore can allow better transport pathways for the solvated ions of larger than 1 nm. Inspired by the inherent meso/macroporous architecture and huge absorption ability to aqueous solution of auricularia biom...
